Saudi Arabia is in the early stages of starting up its key East-West oil pipeline that has enabled Riyadh to bypass the Strait of Hormuz after the conduit was halted earlier this month, people familiar with the matter said, Bloomberg reports.

The kingdom is aiming to restore exports via the pipeline later this week, one of the people said. They asked not to be identified because the information isn’t public.

Multiple oil traders said there were already signs of tankers arriving at the Red Sea port of Yanbu, from where the piped supply is exported.

Saudi Arabia’s East-West pipeline was shut down on September 11 as a security precaution after a series of attacks. The world’s largest oil exporter used to send about 4 million barrels of oil a day, or about 4 percent of global supplies, through the route to the Red Sea port of Yanbu.
