Azerbaijan is still quite clearly and openly talking about the “Zangezur Corridor,” and Iran, in turn, is equally clearly stating that any geopolitical change, any action that harms Armenia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty is unacceptable. Iranian ambassador to Armenia Khalil Shirgholami on Wednesday stated this during a conference on Armenian-Iranian relations.

Shirgholami called this the first precondition for the implementation of the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) regional transport project, adding that no harm should be done to Armenia’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty during the project.

According to the Iranian ambassador to Armenia, the second important circumstance is that the US military presence in the region is unacceptable for Iran, since the hostility of the US towards the Iranian people has been proven many times, including in recent times.

"Perhaps everyone has heard US President Trump's speech at the UN General Assembly, which showed how deep this hostility towards the Iranian people is. Therefore, based on these two conditions—not harming the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Armenia, as well as the absence of a US military or security presence near the borders—we [i.e. Iran] have no reason to oppose this project if it will contribute to the development and well-being of the Armenian people," the Iranian ambassador to Armenia noted.
