The European Union’s (EU) interest in developing relations with Armenia is deliberately demonstrative, and its goal is to harm Russia and carry out its own geopolitical tasks. Vladislav Maslennikov, Director of the Department of European Affairs of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), stated this in an interview with RIA Novosti.

“Yerevan’s course, given the fundamental incompatibility of EU legislation and EAEU law, cannot but raise questions for us. In the same way, as well as the European Union’s deliberate demonstrative interest in developing relations with Armenia,” Maslennikov said.

He noted that, given the EU’s openly anti-Russian policy, which is increasingly turning into an uncompromising and aggressively disposed military-political bloc, there is no point in having any illusions about its true intentions.

"Brussels has never been distinguished by altruism. Its primary goal is not at all the economic prosperity of Armenia, but rather harming our country and carrying out its other geopolitical tasks," the Russian diplomat noted.
