Iran will consider the proposal to withdraw from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), deputy speaker of parliament Ali Nikzad said.

“The draft to withdraw from the NPT is being discussed with extreme urgency. As soon as it is submitted to parliament, it will be discussed on the same day,” Nikzad said, Fars news agency reports.

In his words, “the [Iranian] parliament will also study the international consequences of this move.”

He added that Iranian lawmakers do not trust the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and its director general Rafael Grossi.

The Iranian legislator accused the IAEA chief of only making “superficial” visits to Iran’s nuclear facilities and publishing negative reports about them.
