The Lithuanian authorities have announced their readiness to host a permanent US military base in Lithuania, the latter’s national defense minister, Robertas Kaunas, said on LRT national radio.

“We [i.e. Lithuania] are ready to install an American military base. Lithuania reimburses the living expenses of US military personnel, makes significant investments in the creation of the necessary infrastructure for allies, and provides the best conditions for the exercises of units,” the minister noted, presenting the arguments in favor of the deployment of the American army in Lithuania.

This is how the minister responded to US President Donald Trump’s statement that his administration intends to discuss the proposal to establish a US military base in Lithuania.

“We [i.e. Lithuania] are grateful to the [US] president for giving a rational and objective assessment of Lithuania,” Kaunas said. "Lithuania is a leader in security investments not only in the region, but also among all NATO members."
