Renault is preparing its E-Space concept for the Paris motor show, an electric reimagining of the legendary Espace family car that helped popularize minivans in 1984, Autocar reports.

The company calls the new model a “reboot” and a modern interpretation of the original Espace.

The current Espace is already in its sixth generation, but over time it has practically turned into a large crossover. The new concept model, on the contrary, returns to the core idea of the first Espace: the most spacious family car.

The length of the E-Space Concept is 4.7 meters. Judging by the published images, the car retains the recognizable lines of its predecessor—a strongly sloping front end and an almost vertical rear, which enables more efficient use of the cabin space. Renault promises a "generously sized, high-tech and welcoming" interior, but its photos have not yet been published.

The company emphasizes that the E-Space remains exclusively a concept for now. At the same time, Renault states that the car should "explore possible futures" and may become part of the new Futuready strategy. This leaves room for the development of a serial version.

The revival of interest in minivans is occurring amid the transition of automakers to electric powertrains. Electric vehicle platforms, the battery of which is located in the base of the body, enable the creation of spacious cabins with relatively compact external dimensions, which is especially convenient for family cars. If the E-Space reaches the assembly line, one of its most obvious competitors will be the Volkswagen ID. Buzz electric minivan.

The E-Space Concept will be the main exhibit of Renault's pavilion at the Paris motor show. The company will also show a new version of the electric city Renault Twingo with a panoramic glass roof measuring 0.7 square meters. According to Renault, the special coating of the roof filters out 99.9% of ultraviolet rays.

In addition, Renault will unveil its new lithium-iron-phosphate batteries, which are planned to be used in the brand's electric cars, as well as the recently shown electric Renault 8 Gordini concept.
