YEREVAN. – Materials shot on video surveillances on roads may serve for fining drivers for violations against pedestrians, Armenia’s Road Police representative Norik Sargsyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

At the same time the non-disciplinary pedestrians still remain a key issue for the road police.

“It is not right to blame only the drivers. Lots of pedestrians have not yet learned how to respect rules of road traffic and not to cross the street wherever they wish to,” Sargsyan said.

He also believes that installation of surveillance reduced the number of accidents in Yerevan. Fewer crashes were registered during the recent four months this year, as compared to the same period of the last year. In total, 2 people died, while 29 were injured.

As regard to the whole country, 146,685 violations were revealed by policemen and over 100,000 by surveillance and speedometers for the recent four months.
