Interior Minister Laurent Nunez has banned French law enforcement from using sound grenades to disperse the ongoing protests of high school students.

“Yesterday, I ordered a halt to the use of these grenades during the protests of high school students,” Nunez told RTL radio.

The minister said the decision to stop using sound grenades was due to the fact that some protesters were injured by these grenades.

The protests of high school students in France had begun late September in the capital Paris and have spread across the country. The demonstrators are protesting against a demanding class schedule, teacher shortages, and other problems in the country’s education sector. In some places, these demonstrations have escalated into riots and clashes with police. According to the latest data, more than 6,000 people have been arrested during these protests—and most of them are minors.
