It is proposed to set the upper age limit to 32 for conscription to compulsory military service in Armenia for a certain group of male citizens.
The draft law on making relevant amendments to the country’s law on military service and the status of servicepersons was approved at Thursday’s Cabinet session of the Armenian government.
It is noted in the respective explanation that due to the peculiarities of the educational process in a number of foreign universities, male citizens of Armenia who have received a deferment until the age of 27 often do not manage to complete their studies within the specified period and start working in Armenia in the domains defined by the government.
It is emphasized that the adoption of the aforementioned legislative amendments will enable such Armenian citizens to carry out their studies without hindrance, and after completing them, to make use of—for at least three years—the right to deferment provided on the basis of working in the domains defined by the government of Armenia.
