After the launch of a Western data processing center in Armenia, the US will have access to data of Armenia’s state institutions, companies and residents, said the deputy secretary of the Russian Security Council, Aleksey Shevtsov.
“Given that the Firebird company is subject to American legislation, US special services may have access to all data processed on its servers. This means that the data of Armenia’s state institutions, companies, and citizens will be accessible to the US without the consent of the Armenia’s authorities,” Shevtsov noted.
Such centers, according to him, can be used for analytical and intelligence work in the interests of Western special services, including against Iran, Russia, as well as the countries of the South Caucasus and Central Asia.
“I would like to emphasize that for Armenia’s domestic needs, this facility in Hrazdan [city of Armenia] is clearly unnecessary, since the OVIO data center belonging to Rostelecom [company of Russia] has been operating in the country since 2024, which fully meets the needs of [Armenia’s] commercial and state structures for data storage,” added the deputy secretary of the Russian Security Council.
As per the press service of the Russian Security Council, also, Shevtsov recalled that the Firebird AI artificial intelligence data center, powered by NVIDIA processors, was opened in early August in Hrazdan.
