Zhoghovurd newspaper of the Republic of Armenia (RA) writes as follows, in particular: Zhoghovurd daily has learned exclusive details about what the Azerbaijani soldier Nasimi Musayev, who illegally crossed the RA border and broke into an Armenian family, attempted to kill, told.

Although the investigative body is investigating the case in strict secrecy and does not distribute press releases and degrading videos in progress—as is the case with cases involving oppositionists—some information has became available to Zhoghovurd.

In particular, according to Zhoghovurd daily’s information, Musayev justified himself to [Armenian] law enforcement officers by saying that he did not intend to harm anyone when he entered the house of the Armenian family.

According to him, he asked [them] several times to “let me go,” but when the landlady grabbed the butt of his weapon, he shot.

Moreover, the Azerbaijani serviceman claimed in writing that after that, the woman and [her] family members attacked him, stabbed and beat him. It seems that he was standing innocently in a place, the Armenian family attacked him. Another episode narrated by Musayev is also noteworthy.

According to him, he, already bleeding, managed to escape from the house, and later law enforcement officers found him in the field, wounded. Meanwhile, Ani Avetisyan, who was injured by the shots of the Azerbaijani serviceman, told Azatutyun [i.e. the RFE/RL’s Armenian service] completely different, quite brutal details about the incident that occurred in her house on October 1.

According to her, the armed man pointed his gun at the children, then fired at her. The woman said that she tried to protect the children, grab the gun, as a result of which her hand was injured, and from the subsequent shot, her leg also [was injured].

According to her, the serviceman tried to reload the weapon again, but in the end he ran away from the house. “If I hadn’t decided at that moment, neither I nor the children would be here now,” Ani Avetisyan told Azatutyun.

Thus, the Azerbaijani serviceman’s testimony, which became known to Zhoghovurd daily, and the public story of the injured woman differ significantly. In one case, the serviceman presents the shooting as a reaction to the actions of family members, in the other case, the woman claims that she protected herself and the children from the gunman.

The investigation must determine what actually happened in that house, under what circumstances the shots were fired, and what evidence confirms or refutes the versions presented by the parties.
