We welcome and support the initiative of the governments of Armenia and Colombia, as well as 14 other countries, which today launch the Coalition of Action to Recover Endangered Species (CARES{. Cristian Samper, Managing Director and Leader for Nature Solutions at the Bezos Earth Fund and former CEO of the Wildlife Conservation Society, on Friday stated this at the Leaders' Summit on Biodiversity, within the framework of the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 17) to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia.

Their work will be supported by a network of more than 10,000 experts and hundreds of environmental organizations. Governments are raising their level of ambition, and the same is expected from donors, Samper added and announced the creation of the Species Recovery Donor Alliance, formed in partnership with eight other private donors.

Today, they are committing an additional $500 million by 2030 to support species recovery in more than 100 countries. Here at COP17, they have the opportunity and the responsibility to implement the ambitious goals of the Global Biodiversity Framework, added Samper.

Also, the donor coalition for planetary protection, which includes the Bezos Earth Fund and 11 other donors, will accelerate the allocation of its $5 billion in capital, with $3.7 billion planned to be committed by the end of 2026.
