During protests in France against rising living costs in the country, clashes broke out between demonstrators and police in Paris and Lyon, while protesters stormed a municipal police station in Marseille.

Around 100 people were detained in the capital Paris in the afternoon, the police prefecture told BFMTV. According to law enforcement, most of those detained are suspected of wearing prohibited protective equipment, including reinforced gloves and balaclavas, or carrying prohibited objects used as weapons.

Authorities said that the decisive actions of the police quickly dispersed activists who had been calling for violence on social media.

The demonstrations are being held amid rising fuel and energy prices in France, as well as dissatisfaction with the French government's budgetary policy.
