An oil tanker that violated Iranian transit rules caught fire after hitting a sea mine in the Strait of Hormuz, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran said, Fars news agency reports.
According to the IRGC, the ship turned off its automatic identification system while passing through the strait, thus violating Iranian transit rules.
Iranian media had reported Monday about another incident involving another tanker that hit a mine in the southern part of the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC had informed that the shutdown of navigation and identification systems would be considered as a basis for taking strict and decisive measures against ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf.
