It's not enough that the father and son have been detained for two months, the authorities' heart wants the continuation of their detention. This is nothing, what is new is that all this is done on the same day, almost the same time. Yerevan.Today editor Sevak Hakobyan wrote this on Facebook regarding the ongoing pretrial detentions of Armenia's second president Robert Kocharyan and his son, Sedrak.

"By the way, the father and son Kocharyan are deprived of even communicating with each other. This is another case when the humanitarian crisis is recorded.

Unlike thousands of other detention cases, in the case of Robert and Sedrak Kocharyan there is one fact that excludes the issue of detention at all: it is their place of residence. They live in a place that is an object of 24-hour surveillance by the SSS [i.e. the State Security Service]. That is, house arrest is equally possible, it can even be more effective, but the investigators, the rewarded prosecutors are not ‘aware.’

The judge in the Sedrak Kocharyan [court] case is known as the only judge whom [PM Nikol] Pashinyan has accused of corruption for the verdict acquitting [opposition Prosperous Armenia Party chairman, businessman Gagik] Tsarukyan, but who continues to hold office. Everyone knows why: to ensure the fulfillment of all demands without exception.

The detention of Robert Kocharyan should be examined by the judge who detained Sedrak Kocharyan two months ago.

Under the conditions of all this, it is appropriate to recall the PACE [i.e. the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe] report: there is selective justice in Armenia, an environment of political persecution, and period! Of course, this will end, too,” Hakobyan added.
