Azerbaijani officials sometimes use wording that does not contribute to peace. Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Mirzoyan stated this while answering questions from MPs at Wednesday’s meeting of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the National Assembly of Armenia.

The meeting discussed the draft on ratification of the framework agreement on strategic cooperation between Armenia and the US on the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) regional transport project.

As per the minister, the approach of the Azerbaijani side to peace is not always identical: sometimes a caring attitude is observed, but sometimes the complete opposite.

“Yes, sometimes—including from the lips of [Azerbaijani] officials—we hear wording that do not contribute to peace, to put it mildly. Who can deny that? Even if we put aside our situation and emotions, the peace process requires constant care,” Mirzoyan said.

The member of the Armenian government noted that he does not present the situation in an exclusively positive light and is aware of the existing problems.

At the same time, he asked: should Armenia continue the work on normalizing relations in such conditions, or abandon the results already achieved in this direction?

According to the Armenian foreign minister, it is not possible to resolve all issues at once after the conflict. After all, in addition to the legal and contractual side, reconciliation of societies is also necessary, which takes time.

Touching upon the economic foundations of peace, Mirzoyan said that mutual interest should contribute to its preservation.

“I believe mutual benefit is the guarantee of success in everything, including the guarantee of peace. We [i.e. Armenia] have our interest, and Azerbaijan has its interest. Moreover, many other countries are also interested in this,” noted the minister of foreign affairs and international trade of Armenia.
