Armenia and Armenian society should apologize to those Azerbaijanis who have not been able to return to their “native lands” for 30 years, according to Hikmet Hajiyev, an aide to the Azerbaijani president.

“There are certain indelible historical events. However, we [i.e. Azerbaijan] have no intention of taking revenge. In order to establish lasting peace, it is necessary to continue taking steps and coming up with initiatives. Armenia should apologize to the Azerbaijani people,” said Hajiyev.

Also, the Azerbaijani presidential aide noted that a peace agreement with Armenia can be signed, but it can also remain only on paper. In his words, this document should make a real contribution to the lives of both countries.

Hajiyev said that reaching an agreement in 2025 on a peace agreement after a multi-year war was not an easy process. He emphasized that the agreement was initialed at the Washington summit, after which Azerbaijan took important steps to establish peace with Armenia.
