BAKU. – Azerbaijan’s opposition Public Chamber tried to organize another anti-government rally on Friday. Many Azerbaijani opposition activists gathered in Baku’s national park for a so called ‘national walk’.

They chanted the word ‘freedom’ and demanded the resignation of Ilham Aliev, Azadliq radio station reports.

According to the radio station, police officers were mainly wearing civilian clothes. They forced protesters into cars and took them out of the city. Dozens of people were arrested.

“We just want democratic elections. We want to have a right for free gatherings,” an activist said.

As the deputy chairperson of Musavat Gulaga Aslanli informs, 72 people were arrested. All the arrested were taken to the same place, were called separately and photographed and then asked to write explanations and sign a protocol. Those who refused were not set free.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am reported earlier, on Thursday the European Parliament adopted a resolution regarding Azerbaijan in which it is stated that all actions directed at suppressing freedom of speech and gatherings in Azerbaijan should be stopped immediately.
