Slovenia is ready to share its European integration experience with Armenia. The visiting Slovenian Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Tone Kajzer, on Wednesday stated this during a press conference in Yerevan.
Noting Slovenia's rich experience in European integration issues, the minister recalled that the country was once part of Yugoslavia which, as per Kajzer, was not a democratic country, during a referendum 90 percent of the Slovenian population decided that they wanted democracy, rule of law, and a free economy, the country has come a long way and implemented a number of reforms to become an EU member.
According to Kajzer, the core of such a state is an objective judicial system. But the will of the people is at the heart of everything. The people must be listened to, added the Slovenian minister, and lauded Armenia for the progress it has made.
During his current visit to Armenia, the Slovenian foreign minister, who also participated in the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, being held in Yerevan, the Armenian capital, highlighted the rich biodiversity of the two countries and expressed his readiness to exchange experiences in this domain as well.
Kajzer recalled that it was Slovenia that proposed establishing World Bee Day, and added that Slovenians know how to take care of the environment, but at the same time conduct economic activities that do not harm nature. The important thing is to find the right balance to combine nature conservation and the prosperity of the people, the Slovenian foreign minister said.
