Dalan Technopark’s Chief Operating Officer Hayk Ter-Tachatyan delivered a speech on “Every Building is a Biodiversity Decision” within the framework of the COP17 international conference being held in Yerevan, from October 19 to 30.

Highlighting the importance of environmental protection, he touched upon the impact of urban development on natural resources, and presented international experience in biodiversity conservation and the approaches used at Dalan Technopark.

During his speech, Hayk Ter-Tachatyan emphasized that the development of urban development in Armenia, rich in biodiversity, must be accompanied by environmentally responsible approaches. One of the important tasks of modern construction is the efficient use of natural resources and reducing the impact of buildings on the surrounding ecosystem. In this context, it is particularly important to take into account environmental factors at the design phase and to apply solutions that will minimize the negative impact on the environment, from construction to the subsequent operation of the building.

It is important to effectively manage water resources, reduce light pollution, properly organize construction work, and minimize the negative impact on the environment during the subsequent operation of the building.

As a practical example of these approaches, Dalan Technopark was presented—a multifunctional business complex with a total area of 154,500 square meters, which was designed and is being built in accordance with the requirements of the LEED green construction standard.

“We wanted to be present at COP17, because Dalan Technopark is the first commercial building in Armenia that will be designed, built, and operated according to LEED and BOMA international standards. Everything we do for the organizing of construction and the subsequent operation of the building directly coincides with the ideology of COP17,” noted Hayk Ter-Tachatyan.

During the speech, the leading role of Dalan Technopark in the formation of a new culture of sustainable construction in Armenia was also emphasized. The principles adopted in the project and construction organization approaches can serve as an example and become the basis for the development and introduction of new construction standards in Armenia.
