YEREVAN.- During her visit to the Caucasus, Secretary of State Hilary Clinton will meet with the leaders of regional states to ensure democracy of the elections, Richard Giragosian, director of Regional Studies Center, told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

He recalled that Armenia is the first in a row of the regional states where elections took place.

“Armenia is strategically important state in the region,” Giragosian said. There are another two important factors for US interests – Russia and Iran, he added.

As to the Karabakh conflict, the analyst said it would be included in the agenda of Clinton’s visit, although he does not expect “anything new”.  

According to him, Clinton will also try to insert pressure on Turkey to open the border.

As reported earlier, Hillary Clinton will travel to the Caucasus from June 4 to 7. In all these countries, she will discuss important issues of regional security, democracy, economic development and counterterrorism.
