The Armenian government has approved a proposal to sign an agreement with the European Union on Armenia’s participation in the Customs and Fiscalis cooperation programs. The relevant decision was adopted at a government meeting on November 5.
Joining the programs is expected to promote not only technical cooperation between the parties but also Armenia’s institutional development and serve as a tool for improving the country’s economic competitiveness.
The government emphasized that bringing Armenia’s tax and customs systems into line with European standards would strengthen the country’s economic sovereignty and signal its commitment to transparent economic policies aligned with Western standards. Cooperation under the programs is also expected to bring Armenia’s customs legislation closer to that of the EU.
The programs will be implemented over a one-year period, in 2027.
Armenia’s participation is also expected to facilitate the development of European electronic systems in the country, promote the exchange of tax information, and provide training for Armenian tax inspectors.
Armenia’s annual contribution to the programs will amount to nearly €80,000.
