Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has sarcastically suggested that the opposition’s chances of success would increase dramatically if Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II joined its ranks, saying such a move could lead to a revolution and a change of power in Armenia by Sunday evening. He made the remarks at a November 5 government press briefing, commenting on a meeting held by opposition forces the previous day and a statement they adopted.
“Just look at the composition of the opposition. By the way, I will say that there is one element that I believe would increase the chances of this opposition format succeeding several times over,” Pashinyan said.
“I think one very important person was missing from that gathering – Ktrich Nersisyan [Garegin II’s secular name]. If he had been there, the picture would have been complete, and I believe this format could have brought about a revolution and a change of power in Armenia in just a few days. But it is not too late even now: if, for example, they gather in this format tonight, I think there will be a revolution by Sunday evening,” Pashinyan said with evident irony.
