CIS Institute Director Konstantin Zatulin does not believe that someone’s ill-will is involved in the recent developments in Sochi, Russia. The political scientist stated this during a press conference on Wednesday.   

As it was informed earlier, tension has mounted in recent periods between the Armenians of Sochi and the migrant Dagestani and Chechen construction workers in the city.

Yury Garanyan, an Armenian master of Taekwondo, was killed during a mass brawl in early May, and, just recently, the police prevented yet another brawl and detained close to 200 people. The locals complain about the migrant workers’ brazen conduct.   

Konstantin Zatulin said that Armenians comprise nearly half of the population in Adler, that not all construction crews are recruited normally, and mass construction is causing difficulties for the locals.    

“I do not think it is ill-will which is causing the workers and the locals to clash,” he maintained.
