LONDON. – The Human Rights Committee of the Council of Europe adopted a resolution regarding the issue of political prisoners in Azerbaijan on Tuesday. The Resolution calls for the Azerbaijani authorities to decide upon the fates of the over 80 political prisoners and to stop further arrests on political grounds.

Article 19 International Human Rights Organization came up with a statement in which it declares the decision of the Council of Europe to be important in recognizing the presence of political prisoners in Azerbaijan, which the Azerbaijani authorities deny.

“The practice of imprisonment on political accusations for realizing the right of freedom of expression cannot go on and we call on the Azerbaijani authorities to realize the declaration as a member of the Council of Europe,” the head of the organization announced.
