YEREVAN. – The opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) movement will move forward with a new quality and in accordance with the rearrangements in fall, ANC Parliamentary Faction Secretary and Armenian National Movement Party Chairman Aram Manukyan stated during a press conference on Monday.  

Also, he expressed a view that the regional processes—specifically,  in connection with Armenian-Turkish border’s reopening issue, which is closely linked with the Nagorno-Karabakh (NK) matter—will get a new impetus very quickly this fall.    

“The regional tension is escalating, and, naturally, Armenia cannot steer clear of the created situation,” remarked Aram Manukyan.

In his words, Armenia’s unelected authorities have a debt to foreign powers.

“Not being elected was an imprest for them which they must return. [And] I believe this returning process should commence in the next several months,” said Manukyan.   

He recalled that the EU had announced several months ago that it would provide funding to Armenia in the case of holding normal parliamentary elections, but, as per Aram Manukyan, this did not happen, and, consequently, he believes the Armenian-Turkish border’s opening will become the number one issue, where Armenia must return the imprest which includes the NK issue.      

Manukyan noted that they favor the border’s reopening, since it is the shortest route toward Europe, but they are against for all this to take place as a result of political bargaining.
