PARIS. – French President François Hollande’s press service confirmed the information that the country’s leader is preparing a new bill which will call to account those who deny the Armenian Genocide, AFP informs. 

According to the source, Hollande stated this during his meeting with representatives from the Coordinating Council of Armenian Organizations of France.

To note, introduction of such bill was among Holland’s presidential campaign pledges which he intends to fulfill.

In January 2012, the French parliament had passed a draft law which criminalized the denial of genocides, but, later, it was rejected by the French Constitutional Council. This bill specified a 45,000-euro fine for anyone who denied genocides, including the Armenian Genocide.   

Notwithstanding this, then-President Nicolas Sarkozy had instructed the government to prepare a new text for the draft law.
