YEREVAN. – The Helsinki Association human rights organization of Armenia condemns MP Ruben Hayrapetyan’s violence against Association’s observer Arman Veziryan.  

“We consider this incident as an action against the activities toward the protection of human rights. 

Such incidents are a result of the wrong policy conducted by Armenia’s authorities. The Helsinki Association awaits the authorities’ response,” the organization’s statement specifically reads.    

Also, the statement’s authors noted that while they were preparing to send the statement to the media, Ruben Hayrapetyan telephoned Arman Veziryan, apologized to him, and informed that he regrets what he had done.  

As Armenian News-NEWS.am informed earlier, a candlelight vigil in memory of Vahe Avetyan was held Sunday nearby capital city Yerevan’s Harsnaqar Restaurant. Incidentally, MP Ruben Hayrapetyan was in the Restaurant at the time and he hit Helsinki Association’s human rights defender Arman Veziryan. 

To note, an incident had occurred at Armenian capital city Yerevan’s Harsnaqar Restaurant on June 17, where several military doctors including Edgar Mikoyan, Arkadi Aghajanyan, Garik Soghomonyan, Artak Bayadyan and Vahe Avetyan were brutally beaten by Ruben Hayrapetyan’s security personnel.

And Vahe Avetyan died in hospital on June 29.

A criminal case is launched and the Police have detained six people.

The Restaurant’s owner is senior ruling party MP—who on July 3 submitted his resignation from his parliamentary seat—, Football Federation of Armenia President, and businessman Ruben Hayrapetyan.
