YEREVAN.-  France is considering possibility of returning the bill penalizing the Armenian Genocide denial to the agenda, Ambassador Henri Reynaud told reporters on Wednesday.   

He recalled that Francois Hollande confirmed his commitment to his previous statements.

“If I am not mistaken the President said he intends to do it [return the bill on the agenda] before his presidential power expires,” Reynaud said not ruling out external influence on his country.

He considers it is a sensitive issue as it concerns the feelings of the Armenian community of France.

French President François Hollande’s press service confirmed the information that the country’s leader is preparing a new bill which will call to account those who deny the Armenian Genocide, AFP informed.

The move came after French FM Laurent Fabius said France will not have a new law criminalizing the denial of the Armenian Genocide.

The bill proposed by Valerie Boyer was adopted by the French National Assembly and ratified by the Senate on January 23.  However, a group of MPs and Senators, influenced by pro-Turkish and pro-Azerbaijani lobbyists, appealed the bill in the Constitutional Council.
