YEREVAN. – “One of the arrangements reached when signing the memorandum also was that if any one of the signatory political forces did not wish to support this memorandum, they must make a [respective] statement,” ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Vice Chairman Galust Sahakyan told 168 Zham daily, reflecting on the coalition memorandum signed on February 17, 2011 by RPA, Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), and Orinats Yerkir (Rule of Law) Party.      

“To note, supporting the candidacy of [incumbent President] Serzh Sargsyan in the 2013 presidential elections was one of the memorandum terms. But since then the PAP does not clarify whether or not its pledge is still valid. 

‘Certainly [it is]; if there is no statement to the contrary, it is naturally valid,’ said Sahakyan. 

And, since with the 2011 coalition statement the PAP promised to support the serving President’s candidacy and it has not yet made a statement to the contrary, does this mean in 2013 that candidate is [Serzh] Sargsyan?”, 168 Zham writes.
