YEREVAN. – Former bodyguard of Armenian Police Chief Vano Siradeghyan, Suren Sirunyan dwelt on details on the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) MP Aram Manukyan’s past activity.

According to him, when the Attorney General released the order on detaining Siradeghyan for the first time, Manukyan had asked him personally either not to participate in the voting or to vote for the order. Otherwise Armenia’s second President Robert Kocharyan would have fired him if voting against, as Manukyan was a deputy Minister of Culture.

Sirunyan also told about himself, revealing that he had allowed police to use lie detector while interrogating him on the October 27 case (when terrorists headed by Hunan Avetisyan entered the Parliament and shot dead the Speaker Karen Demirchyan, PM Vazgen Sargsyan and several other MPs).

“I answered to the police questions and maybe I answered right,” Sirunyan claimed.

In response to the question whether he had in fact told the truth, Sirunyan gave a negative answer. Otherwise he would have been a member of either ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) or ruling coalition member Orinats Yerkir and would have run some important office. In addition, Sirunyan touched upon the correspondence between Siradeghyan and Vazgen Sargsyan. As a matter of fact, he is not afraid of being invited to the Police or the National Security Service of Armenia for his statements. 

To note, a criminal case was instigated against Siradeghyan in 1998 charging him for the organization of a series of killings. In 1999 the Attorney General’s Office achieved in withdrawing his MP mandate and attempted to arrest him, however, he was already out of Armenia. Siradeghyan is accused of corruption as well and his whereabouts is unknown since April, 2000.
