YEREVAN. – Ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) has positive attitude towards the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) candidate Samvel Balasanyan in the Armenia’s Gyumri Mayoral elections scheduled for Sept. 9, the head of RPA parliamentary group Galust Sahakyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am. 

Asked whether it is the RPA’s final decision, Sahakyan said that it has accepted Balasanyan’s candidacy in general, however, the party will confirm once understanding what supportive role the RPA will play in the Gyumri Mayoral elections. 

In response whether the RPA will support the incumbent RPA Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan, if the latter is enters the mayoral race, Sahakyan said the following:

“No decision is made for supporting someone. As for who may run for the elections, including the incumbent Mayor, it is their civil right.”
