Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad appointed Wael Al Halqi as new prime minister, state-run agency SANA said. Previously he held the post of health minister.
He will replace Riad Hijab who was ousted from his post after it was disclosed he had joined the opposition forces and escaped to Jordan, kp.ru reports.
Omar Ghalawanji was appointed acting premier hours after Hijab joined the opposition.
