Ukraine’s Embassy in Azerbaijan dismissed reports on selling multiple rocket launchers and man-portable air-defense systems to Armenia in 2011.

In a statement the embassy said that a source quoted by media, namely a copy of a letter by the Ukrainian defense ministry posted on August 2 on one of Ukrainian websites, was a fake, Interfax Ukraine reported.

The provocation is targeted at damaging friendly Ukrainian-Azerbaijani relations strategically important for Ukraine, the statement said.

The letter published by several Azerbaijani media outlets said Armenia had allegedly paid 50% of the amount for 50 Igla man-portable air-defense systems and 12 Smerch multiple rocket launchers.
