YEREVAN. – The Armenian community in Syria is currently in safety and most Armenians are not willing to leave Syria, representative of the community told reporters in Yerevan on Tuesday.

Maral Eleyjian-Manjikian, director of Armenian college in Syria, assured that the community is not in danger at the moment, both sides display no negative attitude to the Armenians. The conflict mainly impacts Armenians’ welfare as there is no possibility to work in full. At the same time, all the Armenian institutions, including churches, hospitals are working as usual.

Armenians do care about the situation Syria is faced with, but at the same time they have no intention to leave the country.

 “Only 25 out of 550 students of the Armenian college had moved to other schools, 15 of them in Yerevan and 10 – in Lebanon, the U.S. and other states,” she added.

Another participant of the conference and representative of the community in Lebanon Tigran Chinbashyan said that it is better for the children in Syria to continue their studies in Lebanese schools than in Armenian in case the escalation continues in Syria.
