YEREVAN. – In connection to the escalation of the situation in Syria over the last 7 months, 26 Syrian-Armenian families have turned to the Armenian authorities on being granted a status of refugees, head of the State Migration Service at the Armenian Government Gagik Yeganyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“Currently 12 families, which made 32 people, have already been granted a status of refugees,” he said adding applications are considered in a quick order. 

In addition, the migration service is able to shelter the refugees. However, if the resources run out, it will turn to other bodies for help.

Earlier the agency informed that 60,000 to 70,000 Armenians live in Syria. Majority of them live in Aleppo, while the rest in Damascus, Homs and other cities.
