The devastating magnitude-9 tremor that struck Iran on August 11 also caused damages in Armenia. Magnitude-4.5 tremors were recorded in Agarak, Meghri, Kajaran, Kapan, and Goris cities, and magnitude-3-4 underground shakings were recorded in the capital, Yerevan.      

And the Syunik Regional Hall has formed a professional commission in this connection.

Meghri Mayor Sergey Hayrapetyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am that they received fifteen earthquake damage-related petitions from the city residents. And based upon these petitions, the Provincial Hall, Municipality, and aforesaid commission employees visited the noted addresses to assess the damages. 

“Constructional deviations were not recorded in the residential buildings. But there were cosmetic cracks that need a small expense [to repair]. The most devastated in Meghri was a two-floor summer home, which was damaged by a piece of rock that was torn from a mountain as a result of the earthquake,” said Sergey Hayrapetyan.    

Also, he informed that the results will be summarized once the tremors come to an end.
