The nominations ended on August 24 for the candidates who will run in the local government elections to be held on September 23 in Armenia’s Gegharkunik Region. And the candidates will be registered from August 24 to Wednesday.  

These elections will be held in 64 of Gegharkunik’s 92 communities. Also, mayoral elections will be conducted in Gavar, Chambarak, Martuni, Sevan, and Vardenis cities. 

Six mayoral candidates have self-nominated in Gavar, Pastinfo News Agency reports.

Ruling Republican Party nominated the incumbent mayor, and an opposition ARF Dashnaktsutyun party member self-nominated in Chambarak.   

Also, four, ten, and five mayoral candidates are nominated in Martuni, Sevan, and Vardenis respectively.

To note, the community leader and the council of elders are elected for a four-year term.
