YEREVAN. – Armenia’s National Security Service (NSS) commented on Wednesday’s incident at capital city Yerevan’s Zvartnots International Airport, where a Syrian-Armenian family of eight was denied entry to the country.

In reality, these people are Assyrians and they attempted to cross Armenia’s national border without specified documents and proper authorization, NSS Press Secretary Artsvin Baghramyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.  

He also informed that they sought to use Armenia as a transit country and head to a third country, with assistance by an organizer of illegal immigration.  

“Prior to their arrival in Armenia, their attempt to head toward Europe via Istanbul was unsuccessful. These citizens of Syria were returned to the country they arrived from, that is, Turkey, via the Yerevan-Istanbul flight,” Baghramyan said.  

As Armenian News-NEWS.am informed earlier, Armenia’s Police likewise had issued a clarification in connection with this incident, and informed that the nine Syrian citizens, who had arrived in Armenia, had not submitted any document that substantiated their being Armenian.
