YEREVAN. – The Istanbul pogroms that occurred in 1955 have not yet been condemned properly in Greece and Armenia, head of the Greek Union of Armenia Arkadiy Khakirov told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“It is a pity but the 1955 events are still not properly condemned by the world and the Armenian society. The events are less covered in Greece as well,” Khitarov said.

To note, the Istanbul pogroms occurred on September 6 and 7 in 1955, when the Turkish government spread information about allegedly bomb alert in the Turkish embassy in Thessaloniki. Young Turks were brought to Istanbul and they furiously intruded the Greek district in Istanbul, burnt houses and attacked people.
