YEREVAN. – During Sunday’s meeting of its executive body, the governing board of Armenia’s opposition Heritage Party considered Chairman Raffi Hovannisian’s report and, in advance of the 2013 presidential elections, decided to honor Hovannisian’s determination not to assume his parliamentary seat, Heritage Party press service informed.

To note, during the National Assembly’s (NA) session on Monday, NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan read Hovannisian’s petition to give up his parliamentary mandate. Also, Abrahamyan noted that, pursuant to NA procedures, if Hovannisian does not withdraw his petition within fifteen days after its publicizing in the NA session, his resignation will be automatically considered accepted and his parliamentary mandate will be taken away. 

Raffi Hovannisian was elected MP by Heritage’s proportional list, where his name was first, during the May 6 parliamentary elections.
