YEREVAN. – Armenia’s National Self-Determination Union (NSU) Chairman Paruyr Hayrikyan proposes to have one main candidate—that is, himself—in next year’s presidential elections, and for the former and incumbent presidents to support him in these elections. Hayrikyan himself stated this during a press conference on Wednesday. 

In his words, he is the person who has had a substantial contribution to the country’s domestic politics. “I am saying this because you are not saying it,” the NSU leader told the journalists.   

As per Hayrikyan, Armenia’s First President—and opposition bloc Armenian National Congress leader—Levon Ter-Petrosyan manifests common sense at different stages in his life. 

“And, now, he might live such stage and decide that it’s time to defend Paruyr Hayrikyan. [But] Not for Paruyr Hayrikyan, but rather for the sake of those bright ideas which Paruyr Hayrikyan is trying to serve. The same can be done by the others, [President in office] Serzh Sargsyan, and [second President] Robert Kocharyan,” the NSU Chairman suggested.
