YEREVAN. – As the Armenian delegation to PACE failed to reach a consensus regarding members to participate in the work of PACE committees, head of the delegation offered to apply the D’Hondt method, Prosperous Armenia Party group secretary Naira Zohrabyan told reporters on Wednesday.

The D’Hondt method is a highest averages method for allocating seats in party-list proportional representation.

In response to the question whether she shares the viewpoint that the method is applied deliberately, Zohrabyan said that she does not believe it is applied on purpose as the method is already applied in many parliaments, and in PACE, too. The method is not used to keep away the opposition MPs from political events, she added.

Zohrabyan also assured that heated debates during the Armenian delegation’s meeting will not affect the work of its members.
