YEREVAN.- The international community’s approach toward extradition and pardon of Ramil Safarov was unanimous and it  has created favorable conditions for the Armenian side, Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said in parliament on Wednesday.

His comments came in response to Heritage parliamentary group’s question whether it is time to recognize Nagorno-Karabakh in the context of Safarov’s extradition.

Nalbandian noted that Armenia must continue pursuing its policy which is perceived by the international community and can lead to getting support under such conditions.

“During the last debate, I said that Armenia will continue its efforts into resolution of the Karabakh conflict, into recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh people’s right to self-determination, its implementation and the international recognition. This is the basis and objective of our talks and no one can have a different opinion.

I want to note that in recent days I received dozens of phone calls from the foreign ministers of different countries who expressed support and full perception of our policy. We must continue pursuing our policy carefully as it has led to concrete results and support of the international community. As regards the settlement of the Karabakh conflict, our position is in harmony with that of the OSCE Minsk Group. Moreover, the position of the Minsk Group is in harmony with ours,” he emphasized.

Responding to the representative of the ARFD group about the steps taken since Safarov’s extradition, Nalbandian said that after August 31, the President of Armenia, as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a number of statements telling about the steps which were taken.

“Unanimous response of the international community is the result of diplomatic work of country’s leadership and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” he added.
