YEREVAN. – The court trial into the deadly incident that occurred in Armenian capital city Yerevan’s Harsnaqar Restaurant Complex commenced on Thursday. 

Members from MP Ruben Hayrapetyan’s security personnel and several workers from the restaurant appeared in court as defendants.   

Also, activists from the “Vahe Avetyan” Movement gathered in front of the court, where they are staging a protest. Some of them arrived in the court with a march, Armenian News-NEWS.am’s reporter informs from the court.  

Vahe Avetyan’s father, Garnik Avetyan, who was recognized as the victim’s legal successor, did not appear in court. Also, the court included attorney Vahe Grigoryan into the lawsuit as the victim’s legal representative.  

As Armenian News-NEWS.am informed earlier, an incident had occurred at Harsnaqar Restaurant Complex on June 17, where several military doctors including Edgar Mikoyan, Arkadi Aghajanyan, Garik Soghomonyan, Artak Bayadyan and Vahe Avetyan were brutally beaten by security personnel. And Vahe Avetyan died in hospital on June 29.

Subsequently, a criminal lawsuit was filed and, now, six people are standing trial.

The Restaurant’s owner is ruling Republican Party MP, Football Federation of Armenia President, and businessman Ruben Hayrapetyan, who on July 4 formally submitted his resignation from his parliamentary seat in connection with this incident.
