Former Georgian parliament speaker, one of the opposition leaders Nino Burjanadze demanded MFA to explain why the Armenian MP Shirak Torosyan was banned to enter the territory of Georgia.

Burjanadze stated, that MFA of Georgia should have serious reasons for making this decision and it should offer an explanation on this matter. In case if MFA does not have corresponding substantiations, they will have to apologize to the MP who was barred from entry. “I consider at least improper to ban the deputy of legislative body of another country to bar from entry to Georgia, especially when the country is our partner and friend,” Burjanadze particularly emphasized.

Recalling, that on June19, 2009 Georgian border guards referring to the order of authorities, did not permit MP Shirak Torosyan, the President of “Javakhk Patriotic Union”, member of Armenian delegation, to enter Georgia. The MP stated that Armenian MFA sent a note of protest to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, however there is no response yet. Later, Armenian MFA announced, that there was no note sent to Georgian colleagues, but just a request to clarify the situation.
