BEIRUT. – Snipers have killed an Armenian youth in Aleppo’s Armenian-populated Nor Kyugh (New Village) district.

The young resident, by the name of Koko Ghazarian, lost his life as a result of a sniper shot, Editor-in-Chief Shahan Kandaharian of Lebanon’s Aztag Armenian daily told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“A large number of government troops are deployed in Aleppo’s Armenian districts,” he noted.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am earlier informed, the Armenian community of Syria categorically rejected reports that the Syrian government had allegedly called on the Armenians to abandon their homes and settle down elsewhere.

“I categorically reject such reports. On the contrary, the Syrian government calls the Armenians not to abandon their homes,” Armenian community representative in Aleppo Zhirayr Reisian told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

To note, the vehicles of Armenians, who were returning from the airport to Aleppo, were caught in crossfire recently. As a result, four Armenians died and fifteen were injured. Doctors informed that injured Armenians’ lives are not in danger.

As a whole, the tension in Aleppo is escalating, with electricity, food and water running out and the incessant clashes in the city. Some Syrian Armenians were either moved temporarily to neighboring countries or they came to Armenia.

Around 60,000 Armenians live in Syria, and great majority of them reside in Aleppo and Damascus.
