The Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) representative Kristiina Ojuland within the frameworks of the debates on the Azeri murderer Safarov Affair, which was held in the European Parliament in the sub-committee on human rights, expressed the ALDE’s viewpoint. Due to her debates, the issue was shifted to another deeper level – the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, dzd.ee reports.

The very lack of results brings forth the ALDE searching for new formats for the conflict settlement. The idea of the ‘quartet’ with the EU participation contains a potential for the establishment of new dynamics for moving forwards. According to Ojuland, such approach will create additional stimulus for both sides of the conflict.

Eastern Partnership, which is offered to the Caucasus states for implementing reforms and integration processes, may and should play a key role. EU’s examination may reinforce the OSCE Minsk Group efforts and inspire the project for settling the conflict.

In addition the ALDE rejected to sign the resolution condemning pardoning, rehabilitations and honors of the Azeri murderer, who killed the Armenian lieutenant in his sleep in Budapest in 2004.
