YEREVAN. – Local self-government elections will be conducted in Armenia on Sunday, and in 318 communities, specifically in Aragatsotn, Gegharkunik, Kotayk, Vayots Dzor, and Tavush regions, Central Electoral Commission (CEC) Chairman Tigran Mukuchyan stated during a press conference on Wednesday.   

Community leaders will be elected in 262 communities and council of elders’ members will be voted for in 281 communities. 

A total of 699 candidates for community leadership were nominated for the elections, but 177 of them formally withdrew their candidacies, and therefore 521 candidates will run in the elections. 

Mayors will be voted for in sixteen cities and council of elders’ members will be elected in twenty cities. One mayoral candidate will run in Sevan, Yeghvard, Tchambarak, and Abovyan cities each.   

CEC Chairman also informed that local-self government elections will not be held in thirteen communities due to not enough number of candidates. 

Tigran Mukuchyan added that 285 of the 699 candidates for community leadership have no party affiliation.
