Iran and Azerbaijan are expected to sign a long-term gas contract within the next few months, Seid Reza Kesaizade, Managing Director of the National Iranian Gas Export Company (NIGEC), reported on January 20.
The Tehran Times reports that the contract provides for the supply of 5m cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas to Iran daily, which makes about 1.8bn cubic meters yearly.
Kesaizade pointed out that the infrastructure allows 500m cubic meters of gas to be supplied yearly.
Last week, SOCAR and NIGEC signed a short-term gas supply contract in Baku.
Under the contract, Azerbaijan will have supplied up to 100m cubic meters of gas to Iran by this March-April.
